Police in Mwansabombwe District of Luapula Province have arrested a 21-year-old woman of Kasumpa Village for throwing her two-year-old baby into the fire after she found her eating relish from the pot.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, disclosed in a statement, Tuesday, that the two-year-old child sustained severe burns on both legs after her 21-year-old mother identified as Esther Mumba beat her up and threw her into the fire outside the house.
He stated that the baby was fortunately rescued by her grandfather.
“Police in Mwansabombwe received a report of Assault on a Child in which Rodgers Mutale aged 60 of Kasumpa village in Mwansabombwe District reported that female juvenile aged two years of the same village was thrown into the fire by her biological mother, Esther Mumba aged 21. She sustained severe burns on both legs. Facts of the report are that, on March 11, 2019 around 16:00 hours at the above village the named suspect found her child eating relish from the pot. She became upset, beat her up and threw her into the fire outside the house. Fortunately, the baby was rescued by her grandfather,” stated Hamoonga.
He stated that the suspect had been arrested and would appear in court soon.
