A 27-year-old man of Kalulushi who is accused of killing a taxi driver yesterday appeared before the Chingola Magistrates’ Court with two counts of murder and aggravated robbery.

The Court is however still awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to commit the case to the High Court for trial.

In this matter, Billy Savius Katyanka 27, of 175 Madam Road in Kalulushi is facing two counts of murder and aggravated robbery.

Particulars of the offence in the first count are that Katyanka on dates unknown but between April 1 and April 2, 2019 murdered Joseph Mutale a taxi driver of Chingola.

In the second count, it is alleged that Katyanka on the same dates stole a Toyota Corolla, registration number AIB 9502 valued at K65,000, property of Malambo Hamabona, by threatening the driver of the same vehicle, Joseph Mutale, to harm him if he resisted.

When the matter came up yesterday, Chingola Senior Resident Magistrate Peggy Banda informed the accused that the charges he was facing could only be tried by the High Court.

The matter has since been adjourned to May 8, 2019 for another mention, awaiting instructions from the DPP to commit the case to the High Court.
