The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Eastern Province has arrested and jointly-charged three people for trafficking in over one tonne of loose cannabis.

In a statement issued by DEC deputy public relations officer, Kamufisa Manchishi, the trio were intercepted at a checkpoint in Sinda District of Eastern Province.

Manchishi further disclosed that the Commission had also arrested a Kapiri-Mposhi-based hairdresser, who was intercepted at the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in transit to India for trafficking in 3.97 Kg of heroin.

“Isaac Mvula, 38, a truck driver of Balastone Park in Lusaka has been arrested and jointly charged with Joshua Chileshe, a lorry boy of Lilanda Compound and Noah Mvula, 43, a businessman of Kabwe District for trafficking in 1.135 tonnes of loose cannabis. The trio was intercepted at a checkpoint in Sinda District. Meanwhile, the Commission on the Copperbelt has arrested a lady of Kapiri Mposhi District for trafficking in 3.97 Kg of heroin. Francisca Kaluba, 39, a hair dresser of House No. 20, Section A, Ndeke Village in Kapiri Mposhi has been arrested for trafficking in 3.97 Kg of heroin. The suspect was arrested at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in transit to India. All the suspects are in police custody and will appear in court soon,” stated Manchishi.
