Human Rights Commission (HRC) Chairperson Mudford Mwandenga has insisted that the death penalty violates individuals’ right to life. In a speech read on his behalf by HRC Commissioner Fr Emmanuel Chikoya, during commemoration of the World Day against Death Penalty under the theme; “Death Penalty; A Road Paved with Torture”, Monday, Mwandenga said the commission was looking forward to the enactment of the reviewed penalty code and criminal code which would enhance the protection of human rights. “The death penalty violets the right to life and protection against torture and other cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
