FISHERIES and Livestock Minister Makozo Chikote says two people have died while 223 others have developed skin sores from suspected anthrax in Sinazongwe District. And Chikote says 245 cattle have died from anthrax disease in Sinazongwe district. Responding to a questions of oral answers asked by Bweengwa UPND member of parliament Kasautu Michelo who asked whether the government was aware that there was an outbreak of anthrax in Kazungula, Sinazongwe and Monze districts of Southern Province, Chikote said the people who had sores revealed that they had consumed meat from hippos which were dying on the shores of Lake Kariba. “Government is aware of the anthrax situation in the country.
