AFRICA Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) Secretary General Dr Christian Addai-Poku says the free education policy in Zambia is not entirely free as parents still incur other costs like buying books and uniforms. In an interview on Monday, prior to the AFTRA conference held in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Addai-Poku said while government had taken a major step by eliminating tuition fees, it could move a step further by also providing books and uniforms. “The free education in Zambia is actually not full free education because we are trying as much as possible to eliminate cost, and so if the child cannot get the uniform, that alone is going to work against the child’s education.
