IKELENG’I UPND MP Dr Elijah Muchima and Elias Mubanga have announced that they will not contest the 2026 parliamentary elections, months after their dismissal from ministerial positions by President Hakainde Hichilema. In February, President Hichilema relieved the duo of their duties as minister of Health and minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development. Their dismissal was reportedly prompted by their failure to vote for Bill 7. Meanwhile, recent social media reports allege that Mazabuka Central UPND MP Gary Nkombo will not recontest his seat in the August 13 general elections.
