PATRIOTS for Economic Progress (PEP) president Sean Tembo has opted to contest as an independent candidate for the newly created Roma constituency after a failed running mate bid. Tembo, who was scheduled to file as running mate to former Luapula MP Chanda Katotobwe, to whom he had earlier handed over PEP’s presidency for the August polls, confirmed this in an interview with News Diggers! on Wednesday. According to Tembo, his running mate bid failed because his party was changed from a political party to a church, making it unable to participate in elections, a claim disputed by Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Dickson Matembo and the Registrar of Societies.
