THE Mozambican government has congratulated Zambians for conducting peaceful elections that resulted in the re-election of President Hakainde Hichilema. The congratulatory message comes after the country’s general elections held on August 13, 2026, where President Hichilema emerged victorious, polling 2,965,326 against his closest rival Brian Mundubile of NRPUP who polled 1,856,217 votes. In a statement, Wednesday, Ministry of Defence Principal Public Relations Officer Paul Shalala said Mozambique’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Victor Canhemba, said the re-election of President Hichilema presents an opportunity to enhance defence and security relations between the two countries.
