SECRETARY to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa has warned that about 1.2 million people risk facing severe food shortages from October to March 2027. Kangwa adds that energy and water utility companies must constantly monitor the country’s dam levels in order to manage power generation and spare citizens from load shedding. Meanwhile, Kangwa says the chance of El Niño developing stands at more than 90 percent, adding that it could strengthen into a “Super El Niño”, which will last from now until March, 2027.
