THE IMF, World Bank and other ‘image builders’ of the UPND government can’t seem to have enough of patting each other’s backs on economic and governance reforms in Zambia. Ironically, most Zambians, on the other hand, don’t seem to know of these economic and governance reforms. Yes, it must be acknowledged that the Debt Management Act; the amendments to the Bank of Zambia Act amongst few other progressive changes have been very good. But we get a bit lost when the visiting IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva says, “we are impressed with the efforts made by the Zambian government on key economic reforms which have laid the foundation for sustainable growth”.
