FDD leader Edith Nawakwi has insisted before the Lusaka High Court that she is late Geoffrey Hambulo’s widow and therefore a beneficiary of his estate.
This is a matter in which Nawakwi has sued two of her step-children Mweemba and Mulundu Hambulo in the Lusaka High Court, seeking among others, an order to revoke the letters of administration of the estate of late Hambulo granted to the two dated January 12, 2022.
Mweemba and Mulundu recently argued that Nawakwi was not a fit person to be entrusted with the administration of the deceased.
They stated that a day before their father’s burial, Nawakwi’s family insisted that the deceased would not be buried until dowry was paid, because their late father had not paid dowry to her family to signify the existence of a marriage.
But in an affidavit in reply, Nawakwi insisted that she was Hambulo’s widow and a beneficiary of his estate.
She stated that the late and herself got married at St Ignatius parish Catholic Church on December 22, 2014.
“At all material times, the respondents referred to me as their mother and it is a well-known fact that I was married to the deceased and the respondents were children of the home. The question of my marital status to the deceased has only been raised by the respondents after the deceased’s burial. Further, the said averments are not only malicious but are aimed at bringing my name and character into disrepute,” she stated.
“I am reliably informed by my advocates and verily believe the same to be true that the mere fact that the respondents are interested parties and are educated, does not ensure that they are the most suitable candidates to be the administrators of the estate of the deceased.”
