ONE of the first things that the UPND did after forming government was to abolish the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs. This was a commendable move because it was a waste of money, government space and people’s time. With all the churches available, why should we need a government ministry to advocate for people’s repentance from sin? It simply didn’t make sense. Those who established this day had other intentions for it. What we find strange, however, is the fact that after abolishing the ministry of religious affairs, the UPND government decided to maintain the brainchild of that ministry – the National Day of Prayer and Reconciliation.
