FINANCE and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane says government is in the process of issuing a statutory instrument to provide tax relief, as a complete package, on irrigation equipment. He was responding to Mbabala UPND MP Joseph Munsanje, who asked whether government had any plans to reduce import duties on solar gadgets, irrigation equipment and water tanks to support farming activities following the drought experienced in the 2023/2024 rainy season. Dr Musokotwane noted that the main irrigation equipment for agriculture was already free of customs duty, but the accompanying equipment such as circuit breakers and electric panels still attracted customs duty. “Under solar gadgets, the government has suspended customs duty on solar gadgets through Statutory Instrument number 86 of 2019....
