MINISTER of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe says he will not go to prison over the sale of Mopani Copper Mines to International Resource Holding (IRH) because the deal was decided by government, not himself. The transfer of Mopani’s ownership to IRH’s Delta Mining company has become a contentious matter because of government’s failure to subject the transaction to parliamentary approval, as the law requires when dealing with national assets. However, Kabuswe insists that the deal never required parliamentary approval because it did not involve a sale, transfer, or disposal of state assets.
