EARLIER this week, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Irene Khan, arrived in Zambia for a 10-day visit to assess the country’s human rights situation. Over the past few days, she has met with government officials, civil society groups and several stakeholders, who have presented their views on the state of human rights in Zambia. The opposition, some civil rights activists, and even the former president, Edgar Lungu, have highlighted what they describe as human rights violations under the UPND administration.
