IN the past, we have pointed out that some politicians from the North and East have tended to carry an air of entitlement to power in this country. Their rhetoric and actions often portray a belief that the presidency somehow belongs to them. Since independence, Zambia has largely been ruled by presidents from the Northern and Eastern regions, with the exception of the late Levy Mwanawasa from Central Province between 2001 and 2008. If we are meant to believe that this trend was on merit rather than tribe, then we must be very proud as a country that in 2021, that merit moved us away from these two regions.
