PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema deserves commendation for listening to the will of the people and abandoning the push to amend the Constitution without consultation. His decision to halt the process following the Constitutional Court’s ruling, and to instead appoint a technical committee to review proposed amendments, marks a moment of political maturity and respect for constitutional order. It reflects a welcome departure from the arrogance of the previous administrations that sought to manipulate the supreme law of the land for partisan advantage.
