CENTRAL Province Permanent Secretary Dr Milner Mwanakampwe has attributed mine fatalities to lack of capacity building of artisanal miners. Dr Mwanakampwe says illegal mining has continued, owing to the delay in the issuance of mining licenses to artisanal miners by government. Recently, Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba warned illegal miners operating in Central Province to “immediately” vacate mining areas. The warning followed a mining accident at Mulaushi Mine in the Katikulula Resettlement Area, where four illegal miners died and 29 were arrested.
