Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) secretary general Adrian Kashala has revealed that more than 90 applications have been received for the Zambia national soccer team coaching job.

Kashala told Goal diggers that although the association has not advertised for the position which fell vacant early this year, it has continued to receive applications mainly from foreign coaches.

“There are more applications and we keep on receiving even though we haven’t yet advertised for the position of Chipolopolo coach. Others are even calling me. Whoever is giving them my number, I don’t know. And it’s mostly foreign-based coaches applying for the position, we have just a few Zambians. What more when we advertise? We will reach close to 200 or even more. We will have this whole house full of applications. Yeah, obviously we will be overwhelmed and obviously it will be difficult to select the coach because already, those applying have good qualities,” Kashala said.

Meanwhile, Kashala said government guidelines on how to undertake certain processes such as the recruitment of a coach is not interference because “as stakeholders, they have the right to state their interest”.

“Government is a major stakeholder and when we talk about the coach, we bank on government to pay the coach so we cannot say our work is getting difficult, no. They also need their interest protected in terms of having someone to coach the national team. And what they give us are just guidelines of how we can undertake certain processes, say the process of recruiting a coach,” he said.

Kashsala also congratulated the women’s team that beat Botswana in an Olympic qualifier played at Nkoloma stadium on Wednesday.

“We are happy with our women team that beat Botswana by a lone goal. We just want to encourage them to go there and either defend their one zero goal aggregate or beat them at their backyard. We want our women to progress to the next level. And for the CHAN team, we want them to finish their business here and qualify for the tournament. Our supporters should buy tickets to give morale to the side,” said Kashala.
