FORMER Zesco board chairperson Mbita Chitala has advised the government to invest in nuclear power generation stations to curb power outages. In response to a press query, Chitala encouraged government to make a formal request to Russia to help the country build a nuclear energy solution. He also urged government to modernise and expand the transmission network. “Zambia’s possible hydro generation capacity is only about 6,000 MW. There is about 3,000 MW available. The government must be encouraged to quicken the pace in investing in the stalled development at Lusiwasi Lower, the others on Luapula River, Ngonye falls, Kabompo and Kalungwishi Rivers and other small hydros.
