LUSAKA High Court Judge Lameck Mwale has ordered government to bear the costs of a case filed by NRPUP presidential spokesperson George Chisanga, who was challenging his detention. Chisanga had asked the Lusaka High Court to urgently hear his application seeking to challenge his continued detention at Chelstone Police Station. Chisanga was asking the court to allow him to apply for a writ of habeas corpus, a legal process that requires authorities to explain why a person is being detained and, if the detention is found to be unlawful, order their release. Judge Mwale, however, stated that the proceedings herein were debatable because they had been overtaken by events, as Chisanga had been charged with a non-bailable offence of treason....
