Copperbelt has a total of 4,564 inmates as of January 7, Kansenshi Correctional Facility officer-in-charge Bwalya Kuyomba has disclosed.

Kuyomba said this during the opening of the Ndola High Court criminal sessions, Monday.

“As of today, we have the break down of inmates as follows; Kansenshi correctional facility 489, Ndola remand 372, Luanshya 407, Mufulira 288, Chondwe 197, Kamfinsa 2,400 and Kamfinsa female, 52. The total number of inmates is 4,564 on the Copperbelt,” said Kuyomba.

Meanwhile, the High Court presided over three criminal cases.

In the first case, Thomas Chisenga is charged with aggravated robbery contrary to the laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that on July 11, 2018 in Ndola jointly and whilst working together with others unknown did rob Enerst Chola of a solar panel and K2,000, property of Edward Mutale.

Chisenga denied the charge and Justice Davies Chali Mumba adjourned the matter to January 9, 2019 for trial.

In the second case, Edwin Mupila is charged with murder.
