The Police Command in Lusaka has launched a manhunt to fish out killers of a Protective Unit Police officer’s wife in Makeni residential area.
In the early hours of Thursday, January 10, 2019, Sergeant Billy Simwamba’s family was attacked by three criminals.
In process of demanding a firearm from the officer, the criminals killed his wife Joy by hitting her with an iron bar on the back of her head.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed this in a statement, explaining that Sergeant Simwamba and his brother sustained some injuries and were admitted to University Teaching Hospital while the body of his wife was also at UTH awaiting postmortem.
“Police in Lusaka have launched a manhunt for three criminals who attacked a Protective Unit Police officer and his family and killed the wife of the officer identified as Joy Mpandu Simwamba aged 31 and injured the husband who is a Police officer identified as Sergeant Billy Simwamba aged 39 and his brother Brian Simwamba. This happened in the early hours of today, 10th January, 2019, at about 02:00 hours in Lusaka’s Makeni Villa when three criminals armed with iron bars attacked the officer at his home demanding for a firearm,” stated Katongo.
“The wife of the officer who was hit at the back of the head with an iron bar sustained a deep cut and died. The body is at UTH awaiting postmortem while the Police Officer and his brother sustained multiple injuries and are admitted to University Teaching Hospital. Investigations have been instituted in the matter and a manhunt for the criminals has been launched.”
