THERE was drama at the National Housing Empowerment Fund (NHEF) head office yesterday when angry clients threatened to beat up the company’s project director Kamphelembe Ngulube who was at pains to justify selling them ‘non-existent’ land. Some clients talked to expressed anger at the fact that the name of the empowerment fund sounded like it was a government programme and lured them into contributing money, when in fact it was a private business. In early 2020, over 2,000 people rushed to secure land in NHEF’s Riverdale City Estate, which the company advertised to be only 17 kilometres from Crossroads Mall.
