FORMER Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) president Abyudi Shonga has described the process of reforming the Public Order Act (POA) as timely and monumental for the country’s democracy. Shonga, a member of the technical committee which led the process of POA review, says the Act has been a thorn in the flesh of many citizens for several years. The Zambia Law Development Commission (ZLDC) recently handed over a report on the review of the Public Order Act, and the proposed draft Public Gatherings Bill, to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security for onward submission to the Ministry of Justice.
