FORMER president Edgar Lungu yesterday took social media by storm when he was captured with two influential Catholic Church leaders – Lusaka Diocese Archbishop Alick Banda and his predecessor Emeritus Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu in what was considered a reconciliation meeting. Prior to the 2021 general elections, Emeritus Archbishop Mpundu was a heavy critic of the Edgar Lungu administration, while his successor, Archbishop Banda was viewed to hold a divergent view that tended to be more critical of the Hakainde Hichilema-led political front. In one significant instance while serving as Lusaka diocese Archbishop, Mpundu declared Zambia a dictatorship under Lungu’s leadership, further accusing him of causing a political crisis in the country.
