A MULTITUDE of citizens thronged around former president Edgar Lungu yesterday as he went round Lusaka’s Central Business District (CBD) to check on commodity prices, chanting “abwelere, tavutika (he should bounce back, we’ve suffered”. And Lungu says prices of commodities are indeed high under the current regime, emphasising that those in authority should take drastic measures to ensure that people’s lives are made much more bearable than the current situation. However, police say Lungu’s actions constitute an unlawful assembly, warning him that regardless of his status as former head of state, he is not above the law, and they will not hesitate to enforce it.
