We won’t give in to threats from Mr Zingman and his agents
BELARUSSIAN businessman Aleksandr Zingman has threatened to take us to court for refusing to disclose our sources of his controversial photographs where he was pictured interacting with our Head of State, Lusaka Business Valden Findly, […]
15 Qualities of a Dictatorship
Dictators often rise to power out of conflict or a coup d’etat. However, there have been dictators who got into power democratically or legally. Adolf Hitler, for example, was appointed chancellor, or head of government, […]
The ‘nationalisation’ of CEC will hurt economy
We don’t want to be carried away by the technical legal jargon from government ministries. This development of government declaring all of Copperbelt Energy Corporation’s power infrastructure as “common carrier” looks like nationalisation and we […]
Careful how you manage gold, if Congo had no minerals, there wouldn’t be war
Gold! It is the world’s most well-known precious metal and also one of the most expensive in the world. To extract gold, one has to dig deep into the Earth’s crust; in many cases, using […]
Zambians are already fatigued with PF scandals
Zambians are already fatigued with PF scandalsPRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says the people will soon get fed up of PF if some undisciplined top officials are left unchecked and scandals continue to characterise the ruling party. The Head of State said this when he addressed party officials in Kasempa last Friday, stressing that the same way that people got fed up with UNIP and MMD, they would also get fed up with PF because of scandals."The people that saw UNIP get out of power are the undisciplined members of that party, the people who killed MMD out of government are the undisciplined members and the members who will remove us as PF, are the undisciplined members in the party. People got fed up of the chairman in the UNIP days because he was busy looking at other people's things and getting land and all those things, people got fed up. Similarly, people got fed up with MMD because they were allocating land illegally and doing all sorts of things, people got fed up. Sooner than later, people will get fed up of PF if we allow ourselves to be dominated by thugs and criminals in the name of leaders. So for that reason, don't expect that you will get the support from the party, from the President, from the chairman, from the Vice-President [or from] any of us the top leadership in the party if you misbehave because you are leaders. We will deal with you,” said President Lungu. It is good to hear that the the President is still concerned about the image of his government. We thought he stopped caring about that a long time ago, looking at how much rot has taken place under his watch. Hearing the Head of State warn his party officials that Zambians would get fed up of PF if they keep embroiling themselves in scandals was pleasing. This is the kind of message that we want to hear from State House. This is what it means to provide governance oversight. When a President keeps quiet in the face of criminality involving ruling party officials, it gives the impression that those illegalities are committed with your blessings. So we commend the President for pointing this out to his party. But we have some bad news for Mr Lungu...
You can’t say criminals are using PF when gold thieves are senior MCC officials
Madam Mumbi Phiri, the deputy secretary general of the Patriotic Front and a very high profile member of the Central Committee, announced a few days ago that there are criminals posing as cadres who are […]
Now that we know Zingman, we need a lifestyle audit for Lt Gen Muma, Sturdy Mwale
YESTERDAY, we published photographs from a investigation linking President Edgar Lungu to a Belarusian oligarch named, Alexander Zingman who has been reported in foreign media as being behind some questionable deals between Russian dealers and […]
Fire Dr Chilufya or leave him alone, don’t be a coward
THE arrest, prosecution and subsequent acquittal of Cabinet Minister Ronald Chitotela last year without him vacating office said everything that needed to be said about President Edgar Lungu’s weakness on governance. While the whole country […]
IMF’s rules are unfair, as Dr Kalyalya says, but necessary for reckless govts
MUCH talk and discussion has been held about Zambia needing to clinch an economic bailout package with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in recent years. But this elusive economic programme seems to be a dream […]
Dora deserves our encouragement not condemnation
THE announcement by Chief Government Spokesperson Dora Siliya that she has tested positive for COVID-19 is sobering and calls for reflection and introspection. What Dora Siliya has done is very good and inspiring. This is […]
