Pick n Pay workers have gone on a national wide strike saying the K50 salary increment management offered is an insult.
A check at Woodlands and Kabulonga found the two outlets closed whilst workers chanted slogans whilst waiting to be addressed by management.
“Today we are on strike because of failure to give us salary increment. Imagine they only informed us that the management has decided to increase our salaries by a 50 Kwacha. What is that? This is an insult! Our conditions of service are very poor,” their representative said.
“They think we are dull and as a result they just decide to give us 50 Kwacha thinking that we were going to be happy. Already our salaries are very low. Some of us get K1,300. This is a mockery.”
By press time, management was locking in a meeting at Pick n Pay Head office in Kabulonga.
