MINISTRY of Tourism Permanent Secretary Evans Muhanga has expressed shock at the cancellation of this year’s Kuomboka ceremony, saying he was not aware of the development. Muhanga says the cancellation of the ceremony might have a negative effect on the local economy as various businesses stood to benefit from the ceremony. On Friday, the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) announced the cancellation of the 2023 Kuomboka ceremony and attributed the development to insufficient water levels as well as the death of Senior Chieftainess Mboanjikana of Libonda royal village.
