THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has disclosed that only about 10 mines out of over 2,000 licence holders contributed 80 percent of all revenue collected from the mining sector last year. The Authority adds that the tax base still remains narrow, with 80 percent of 2023 revenue coming from 111 taxpayers out of 389,000 on record, blaming the gap on the informal sector. Meanwhile, ZRA says it prioritised clearing VAT refunds, paying K24.9 billion last year, more than double the K12 billion paid previously.
