Patriotic Front deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has withdrawn her allegations against some Cabinet Ministers whom she accused of sponsoring controversial party youth Julius Komaki to oust party secretary general Davies Mwila and undermining President Edgar Lungu.

Earlier this month, Phiri, who is also a nominated member of parliament, threatened to name the said ministers and some MPs, saying those who had overstayed in office were plotting to oust Mwila and replace him with their puppet who would adopt them in 2021.

“You know what has been happening? In Bemba we say ‘ifilala fyamunda yanama’ (nothing can be hidden forever), you can be doing something thinking that others are not seeing. I have looked at leadership and I am a good example of leadership. Do you know that I never dreamt that I would be an MP? I was raised by God, but if you have ambitions that you want to be this or that, it will not come to pass. This time when we have been going to the NDF, we saw Komaki and his colleague, they were the two of them, they met some of our ministers and our MPs. Let me be challenged, you know me I don’t fear and I speak the truth, let anybody challenge me and I will name them, and they know, I don’t fear, I only fear God,” Phiri had said.

But in a statement, Thursday, Phiri announced that following a Central Committee meeting held on May 26, she had decided to withdraw her allegations in the spirit of unity.

“The Mighty Patriotic Front party and its entire membership is solidly behind the able leadership of His Excellency the President of the party, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who is also the Republican President. The Central Committee which is the supreme organ of the PF party sat on Sunday, the 26th May, 2019 and discussed a very serious matter of national and party unity. The matter of the perceived ministers undermining the President was amicably resolved and we were happy as Central Committee to reach an understanding that we are all solidly behind the able Leadership of our beloved President, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu. We further resolved to always sort out our issues as a party internally and not on media. Therefore, I would like to sincerely withdraw my sentiments on the unnamed ministers unreservedly,” said Phiri.

“As a Secretariat, we shall endeavour to unite and instill a sense of oneness, love, hard work, tolerance, genuine forgiveness and reconciliation amongst our members of the party at all levels of leadership. We take responsibility of uniting the general membership of the party so that we approach 2021 as a powerful united force to deliver the inevitable victory for our beloved party. May the Almighty God our saviour bless mother Zambia in Jesus name.”
