The Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) has disclosed that Reliant Mining Management, one of the major contracted companies at Mopani Copper Mines in Kitwe, has abandoned its intention to offload over 600 miners after intervention from Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe. MUZ president Joseph Chewe confirmed this in a statement, saying Reliant Mining Management had intended to cut some jobs due to Mopani’s non-payment of contractual obligations for over six months. Chewe, however, stated that Kabuswe intervened to convince the contractor to shelve such plans.
