The opening session of the High Court for Luapula Province is set to be opened on May 6, 2019 at the Mansa district registry.

According to the High Court cause list for Luapula province, 34 cases will appear before the Honourable Lady Justice Mary Malanda.

19 cases committed for Trial by the Subordinate Court of the first class for Mansa, Samfya, Mwense, Kawambwa and Nchelenge district.

Out of the 19 trials, four are murder charges contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

And 15 charges are of causing death by dangerous driving, contrary to Section 161 clause 1 of the Road Traffic Act Number 11 of 2002 of the Laws of Zambia.

Other cases on the cause list is one appeal against conviction and sentence made by the Subordinate Court of the first class for Mansa district.

10 cases have been committed for sentencing by the subordinate court of the first class for Samfya, Mansa, Kawambwa and Mwense districts.

Out of the 10 cases committed for Sentencing five are defilement, contrary to Section 138 clause 1 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia as amended by Act number 15 of 2005 and Act number 2 of 2011.

One is attempted defilement of a person with mental illness contrary to Sections 390 and 139 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Two other sentences are indecent assault on a female contrary to section 137 clause 1 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia as amended by act number 15 of 2005.

Also for Sentencing is arson contrary section 328 clause (A) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia as amended by Act number 17 of 2007, and one burglary and theft contrary to Sections 301 clause (b) and 272 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

And four cases have been committed for confirmation by the Subordinate Court of the first Class for Mansa, Samfya and Kawambwa districts of which one is House Breaking and Theft contrary to Sections 301 (a) and 272 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

One other confirmation case is breaking into a building and committing a Felony therein contrary to Section 303 (a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and one stock theft contrary to section 275 clause 1 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Further, one last confirmation case on the cause list is of incest by males contrary to Section 159 clause 1 of the Penal code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia as amended by the Act Number 2 of 2011.
