A police officer on Tuesday evening hit a crossing pedestrian before ramming his vehicle into a drainage.

According to a brief statement issued by Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo, Wednesday, the accident happened at the Great East Road Bwinjinfumu traffic lights.

She disclosed that 29-year-old Titus Mwale sustained a fractured left leg and he was bleeding from the nose.

“We received a report of Serious Road Traffic Accident SERIOUS RTA which occurred on 4th December 2018 at around 1900 hours along Great East road Bwinjimfumu traffic lights bus stop. Involved was male pedestrain Mwale Titus aged 29, a pedestrain of unknown house number in Chaisa Compound who sustained left fractured leg and was bleeding from the nose. Also involved was our Police Officer Identified as Mulela Bonus of Barastone Park who was driving a Motor Vehicle MG registration number ZP 137C . The accident occured when the pedestrain was crossing the road from north to south,” stated Katongo.

“The vehicle fell into the drainage after an accident. He was dragged to Northmead police and was later taken to Manda hill police by a fellow officer.”

Katongo refuted reports that the officer was drunk when the accident happened.
