Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says a 36-year-old man and his 27-year-old wife of Kamanga compound are being held for abandoning their 2-year-old, who has since been found dead.

In a statement, Monday, Hamoonga the couple’s 15-year-old girl reported them to the police after discovering her baby sister dead.

“Police at Chelston police station received a report from a female juvenile aged 15 years who reported that her parents namely: Ingnitious Mukosa aged 36 years and Queen Nakoana aged 27 years had a quarrel and abandoned a female infant aged 2 months old by the names of Queen Nakoana who was later discovered dead by herself who is the elder sister to the deceased. This occurred today 10th February, 2020 in Kamanga compound at unmarked house around 07:00 hours. The suspects are in police custody after being rescued from an angry mob, scene visited by scene of crime and body deposited in mortuary awaiting post mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” Hamoonga stated.

Meanwhile, Hamoonga stated that police recorded a case of suspected murder in Lusaka’s Chilulu compound.

“Garden Police Post received a report of suspected Murder in which members of the public found a dead body of Edwin Nalyanga aged 52 years old of house number 51/7 Chilulu compound in Lusaka. Brief facts are that on 9th February,2020 around 05:00hrs, members of the public discovered a dead body near a make shift shop with a swollen face in Mutonyo area of Garden compound. The deceased was identified by his nephew Oliver Nalyanga of house number 51/7 Chilulu. His grandson Gilbert Chulu aged 19 years old of House number 51/7 Chilulu reported to the officers that the deceased was last seen on 9th February,2020 around 06:00 hours in good health and only to be discovered today Murdered by unknown Criminals. The scene was visited and the body has since been deposited at UTH mortuary awaiting Post-mortem,” stated Hamoonga.
