A CONSORTIUM of unionised University of Zambia workers has given government a 60-day ultimatum to pay the over K600 million arrears owed to serving and retired university staff. The unions have also asked government to immediately appoint and install a substantive University of Zambia Council and advertise the vacant top university management positions. The unions say they will be forced to take alternative actions if the said demands are not met by government. The unions include; the University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU), the University of Zambia Professional Staff Union (UNZAPROSU) and the University of Zambia Allied Workers’ Union (UNZAAWU).
