THE Non-governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has welcomed the enactment of the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, which has rendered all sexual offences such as defilement and rape non-bailable. Parliament has enacted the Criminal Procedure Code Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Act, No. 4 of 2026. The law make offences including defilement, rape, incest, stock theft, stealing medicine, medical supplies, copper, diamond, gold, railway, aircraft, traffic sign and navigation mark non-bailable. The law also makes the destroying of, or damaging of an aircraft, distribution system, transmission system, road, airport infrastructure, aerodrome, vessel and navigation mark non-bailable.
