FORMER State House chief policy analyst Jack Kalala says it is regrettable that the Lungu family has chosen to bury the former head of state in another country. He says while the country respects the legal outcome, many Zambians feel disappointed that an opportunity for national unity, reconciliation and collective mourning has been lost. On Tuesday, the South African Supreme Court of Appeal set aside the order to have Lungu’s body repatriated to Zambia for a state funeral. Later, government said it would not appeal the South African Supreme Court of Appeal’s decision, and would respect the family’s wishes to bury him in South Africa.
