THE Zambia National Service (ZNS) has restored and maintained peace at Soweto and Buseko Markets in Lusaka through frequent patrols following reports of harassment and intimidation of traders. Some suspected UPND cadres reportedly began harassing, intimidating and forcing marketeers to pay as much as K1,000 to continue trading on the day President Hakainde Hichilema was declared President-elect by the Electoral Commission of Zambia. But ZNS moved in to restore peace, an intervention which resulted in the apprehension of eight suspected cadres, including three women, at City Market, who were allegedly dragging traders from their trading spaces and taking them to a designated area where they were held until they paid money.
