THE decision by the Minister of Information and Media, Chushi Kasanda, to dissolve the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) boards is welcome and long overdue. The Independent Broadcasting Authority stands out among the institutions that were gravely abused under the Patriotic Front government. The board that has just been dissolved did not serve the interests of the people or consumers of media content. Instead, they were hell bent to make sure that they provide a safe passage for the Patriotic Front to win the 2021 elections by closing down and suspending licenses of critical media.
