TODAY, Zambia joins the rest of the continent in commemorating Africa Freedom Day, a day set aside to honour the men and women who stood up against colonial domination and demanded that Africa must be free. It is a day for remembering the sacrifices of our founding fathers and mothers; those who endured prison, exile, torture, humiliation and death so that Africans could govern themselves. But as we celebrate, we must also ask ourselves a painful question: are we truly free, or have we merely replaced colonial rule with new forms of colonialism?
