WE agree with Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe that Zambia remains a peaceful nation after the August 2026 elections. The country enjoys a calm atmosphere, and there has been no descent into widespread political violence. But we also have to say that this is not necessarily the most accurate description of the mood in which the country finds itself. Peace cannot only be measured by the absence of people fighting in the streets. A nation can be quiet while citizens remain concerned and uncertain about what they can safely say in public.
