The American Embassy says it looks forward to more details on how Zambia will implement the declared compulsory HIV testing.
Responding to a press query, the Embassy, however noted that the issues was sensitive and as such, there was need to allow government to conclude the guideline development process before further comments on the matter.
“The U.S government congratulates the Zambian Government on the launch of HIV Testing, Counselling and Treatment Day on August 15th. Expanding the day to include HIV treatment is a major step towards epidemic control in Zambia,” stated the US Embassy.
“The U.S. government looks forward to further details regarding Zambia’s HIV testing policy through the development of the HIV testing guidelines. We will continue to work closely with the Zambian Government and other key stakeholders throughout the guideline development process. As such, we will refrain from further comment until details are finalized.”
The mandatory HIV testing has been received with mixed feelings, some people commending government’s move towards ending AIDS by 2030 while others argue that the policy is against the Universal Human Rights.
