ZESCO says it will this year spend over K20 million on new initiatives to fight vandalism. And Zesco Senior Corporate Affairs Manager Caristo Chitamfya has lamented that vandals are making the power company’s operations difficult. Addressing the media after inspecting vandalised power lines in some parts of Lusaka, Sunday, Zesco senior manager for special duties and investigations Benny Mwanamakwa said in January alone, the power utility lost 14 transformers in Lusaka due to vandalism. He said to curtail the vice, Zesco intends to set up intruder alarm systems on most of its installations that are vulnerable, among other initiatives. “The criminals currently are targeting any copper materials, our cables and our transformers.
