The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has adopted Saboi Imboela as its candidate for the Lusaka Mayoral elections slated for July 26, 2018.
Unveiling Imboela at the party secretariat, Sunday, NDC secretary general Mwenya Musenge said the party received overwhelming response from members who wished to be adopted for the Lusaka Mayoral by-elections.
Musenge said Imboela was the right candidate because she is highly educated.
“We have decided to field a female candidate looking at other political parties which have decided to go for a male candidates. We have also observed that our colleagues from PF have fielded a candidate from Northern Province. UPND have also fielded a person from Northern
Province and so we, as NDC, have fielded someone from another region which is Western Province in order to balance,” Musenge explained.
“We are looking a candidate who is quite educated. This is a candidate that has a degree in political sciences and is actually graduated with distinction. She has Masters in International Law and not only that, but she is a PhD student as we speak right now. So she is a person who
is highly educated. As a party, we feel it is high time that we start putting people with such background. We are giving you a candidate that believes in our ideology as NDC. A candidate that will be able to speak for the Zambian people. The candidate that will be able to defend the values of our people.”
Musenge said the party was confident that it would scoop the mayoral sit because Imboela understood what Lusaka residents needed.
“We have the best candidate. Our candidate understands what Lusaka people want. The PF has failed and if you see the gap between the rich and the poor, it is clearly showing that the gap is wider. People are suffering. It is high time that we vote for her so that we can see change within our city,” he said.
Meanwhile, Musenge said NDC was not in any alliance with other political parties.
“There has been some questions concerning NDC party getting into an alliance with other political parties. Let me put it clearly that as a party, we are very strong on the ground and we are growing steadily, focusing on 2021 general elections. We have not entered into an
alliance with any political party in this country we are a stand-alone party. As a party I must state that our 2021 presidential candidate is Chishimba Kambwili who is at the moment our party consultant. I also want to mention that as NDC, we shall continue to offer checks and balances to this PF government,” he said.
And Imboela expressed confidence in winning the seat.
“We shall win the seat. NDC is the only party currently that can speak for the poor and has the best message for the people of Lusaka and the country at large. My appeal to the people of Lusaka is to vote for me because I am the best candidate to offer what the people of Lusaka
want and also to change the face of this City, “ said Imboela.
NDC has adopted Gabriel Mbewe as its candidate for Kasanegwa council chairperson polls, Kedson Kakunta for Chilanga council chairperson and Lugoma Phiri for Chipangali council chairperson.
Others are Given Chola for Chifunabuli council chairperson, John Lungu for Lumezhi and Marvis Mwitwa for Cha Cha Cha ward local government election in Mwense.
