THE Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has disclosed that two directors of Avocado Mining Limited in Kalulushi have been arrested for environmental violations, while the plant has been shut down indefinitely. This marks the second time the mining company has been closed. ZEMA Acting Director General Karen Banda-Etondo says Avocado Mining Ltd was found in violation of a cease-and-desist order issued by the Agency on November 7, 2024. In November 2024, government closed Avocado Mining Limited for environmental breaches, including discharging fumes within the district without ZEMA’s approval.
