THE Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) says the country is on the right trajectory to becoming a middle-income nation, citing growth in key sectors such as agriculture and mining. In July 2022, the World Bank reclassified Zambia from a lower-middle-income country to a low-income country for the 2023 financial year. This downgrade followed a significant deterioration in Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, driven by high debt levels and poor economic performance between 2017 and 2021.
