MINES and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe says the recovery team has found it difficult to rescue the five miners trapped at Matala Gold Mine in Mumbwa because the tunnels are not conventional and do not follow a mine plan. Meanwhile, Kabuswe says copper production from large-scale mines increased to 198,930.17 metric tonnes in the first quarter of 2026. He says this represents a year-on-year increase of 1.8 percent, from the 195,418.89 metric tonnes recorded in the first quarter of 2025.
